Michael J. Derevlany has been practicing law since 1996. He has substantial experience in estates and trusts, having been involved in both the preparation of estate plans and the administration of estates, contested and uncontested. Individual clients wishing to plan for the future have come to him for the entire range of matters, from simple wills to complex estate plans and trusts, according to their particular needs. He has been involved with the probate of estates ranging from the smallest to those involving millions of dollars.
Attorney Derevlany also has substantial experience in real estate practice, both residential and commercial. He has negotiated commercial mortgage loans, negotiated and drafted commercial leases for shopping centers and office space, and handled acquisitions of shopping center properties and other commercial properties and transactions. He has reviewed title reports and surveys in connection with real estate sales and acquisitions, as well as real estate lending transactions. He has represented various lending institutions and financing companies, such as Wachovia, Norwest Mortgage Corp., Northeast Mortgage Corp., and U.S. Properties and Appraisals, and borrowers in real estate lending transactions, sellers and purchasers in sales and acquisition transactions, and landlords and tenants in both residential and commercial leasing transactions.
A former attorney with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and a former prosecutor for the Town of Putnam Valley, Mr. Derevlany is knowledgeable in the areas of environmental, criminal and municipal law. He is admitted to the bar in New York, Connecticut and Colorado, and to the United States Supreme Court.
An accomplished writer, Mr. Derevlany has been published extensively in both popular and professional periodicals. He has presented continuing legal education courses on Internet-related and land use topics.
In addition to his law degree, Mr. Derevlany has an M.B.A. in finance.
